self_DEBASE
Self-destructing rail chock
About the Project
In rail operations, especially during shunting and in marshalling yards, wheel chocks (brake shoes) are used to slow down rolling railcars (braking) and to secure them. Occasionally, these safety devices are not removed during operations. When the train starts to move, this can lead to the chock being overridden, jamming in the switch area, and causing derailments. To minimize this risk, this project is developing a brake shoe that, if mistakenly left on the track, will self-destruct when the train starts moving, thereby preventing damage and eliminating derailment risks.
